Even though he has never concealed or disputed having a Canadian passport, Akshay Kumar frequently faces backlash from internet users regarding his citizenship. Although The Khiladi Kumar doesn’t give a damn about internet trolls, he recently admitted that after delivering 14–15 consecutive flops, he considered relocating to Canada.
My films weren’t performing well a few years ago. Since about 14–15 of my films had failed, I reasoned that I should definitely relocate and seek employment elsewhere. Many people relocate to Canada for employment purposes, but they are still Indians. I also reasoned that I should take action if fate is not on my side in this situation. Akshay informed Lallantop, “I went there, applied for it (the citizenship), and received it.
He went on to say, “I have a passport from Canada. Describe the passport. It is a document required for international travel. I am an Indian, so I pay all of my taxes here. I can choose to pay it there as well, but I choose to pay them here. I labour for my nation. Many people have the right to express themselves publicly. I simply want to let them know that I am an Indian and always will be.”
When Karan Johar questioned Akshay if he receives online trolling on Koffee With Karan 7, the Khiladi Kumar responded, “They write about Canada at most. which doesn’t concern me.” Then Karan brought up how the trolls refer to him as Canada Kumar. In response, he said, “Canada Kumar, yea. Call me that, all right.”
For his newly released movie Raksha Bandhan, which competed at the box office with Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha, Akshay is currently hoping for a successful vacation. The business of both films has been significantly impacted by the boycott tendencies, though.
