In the most recent Sony Entertainment Television promo, Shark Tank India judge Amit Jain chastised a pitcher for their poor product on the show. He referred to their pitch as a ‘timepass,’ and the branding of their haircare product as ‘bekaar.’ He discovered numerous technical flaws in the product. His co-judge Namita Thapar told him that he was being too harsh by using such strong words against Manetain pitchers.
Sony Entertainment Television shared a promo of Amit Jain with a pitcher with the caption, “Shark Amit Ne Diya Ek “Candid” Feedback (Amit gave the pitchers candid feedback).”
“Mai aapko candidly bolna chahta hu ki aapko sachaai sunne ki zarurat hai, ye branding bohot hi bekaar hai mere view mai,” Amit said to the pitchers of Manetain as he held a bottle of Manetain in his hand.
Aman Gupta, another shark tank judge, then held the tiny bottle in his hand. Amit continued, “Aapka product agar aise rakha hai toh kewal Manetain dekh sakta hoon, aap shelf pe jab rakhoge toh kya padhwaana chahoge, koi value proposition customer nhi bhad sakta hai.”
Then another shark tank judge, Aman Gupta, held the tiny bottle in his hand. “Aapka product agar aise rakha hai toh kewal Manetain dekh sakta hoon, aise rakha hai toh Oh so clean padh sakta hoon, aap shelf pe jab rakhoge toh kya padhwaana chahoge, koi value proposition customer nhi bhad sakta hai”
“Lekan jo puri pitch aapne bataayi in depth about curly hair and uski maintenance, product dekhliya ek pe bhi nhi likha ki ye curly hair ke liye bana hai,” he continued, “but I cannot see the same thing written on your product if its useful for curly hair.” Judge Vineeta Singh concurred with him. “Kahi na kahi woh value proposition nikaal kar laani chaiye thi…, last point mujhe lagta hai ki aap log isse timepass kar rahe ho, chaar saal se aap idhar udhar income source se, and foundation commitment mujhe kam laga,” Amit explained. (You should have put the value proposition front and centre; I believe you are wasting your time.)
“Nhi, but timepass par thoda harsh word nhi hai Amit,” Namita Thapar said, “don’t you think the usage of the word ‘timepass’ is a bit harsh?” “Haan harsh hai, and I want to be harsh because that is how it should be,” he said to her. “Founder ko apni saari jagah ek jagah daalni padhti hai ek kaam mai, 10 naav pe sawaar nhi ho sakta hai (Yes, yes. It is harsh; a founder must focus all of their efforts on one product in the same direction; he cannot do ten things at once).” In the end, Namita had an odd reaction.
