In 2022, Akshay Kumar had five films released, four of which were theatrically released. When his films failed to perform well at the box office, many online chastised the actor for ‘working too hard.’ But Akshay isn’t having it. He responded to these critics during a recent interaction at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit 2022, saying he doesn’t understand why they have a problem with him working.
On Saturday, Akshay attended a cinema session at HTLS with fellow actor Ram Charan. When asked why he works so hard and has 4-5 releases a year, Akshay replied, “Tell me, does anyone here ask their children why they work so hard?” People ask, ‘tni gambling kyun karta hai, itna peeta kyun hai’ (why do you gamble and drink so much). But who questions someone’s work ethic?”
The actor defended his decision to work on four films per year and stated that he would continue to do so in the future. “I make four movies a year.” I do it, believe me. Sure, I do advertisements. I work, but I never steal from anyone. I’m not sure I understand. People in the media have asked me why I get up so early. But, after all, the morning is for waking up. They wonder why I sleep so early. Arre bewakoof, aadmi raat ko sota hai (You fool, people sleep at night). I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. Who wouldn’t work if they had the opportunity? I plan to make four films. If necessary, I will grant 50 days and 90 days.”
Akshay also clarified that his previous statement about completing a film in 40 days was misconstrued. “When I say 40 days and all, I’m talking about my shoot days.” Otherwise, films take longer to make, typically 80-90 days,” he added.
This year, Akshay had five films released: Bachchhan Paandey, Samrat Prithviraj, Raksha Bandhan, and Ram Setu in theaters, and Cuttputlli on Disney+ Hotstar.
