Despite positive word of mouth and positive reviews, Amar Kaushik’s new film Bhediya, which follows the success of his 2018 film Stree, fell dramatically on its first Monday. After earning 11.50 crore nett on Sunday, Bhediya only earned 3.85 crore nett on Monday. Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon star in the lead roles, alongside Abhishek Banerjee, Deepak Dobriyal, and Saurabh Shukla.
Bhediya follows Stree (2018) and Roohi (2018) in Dinesh Vijan’s horror-comedy universe (2021). Shraddha Kapoor, who played the female lead in Stree, appears in Bhediya as well.
Taran Adarsh, a film trade analyst, shared the film’s day-by-day collections on Twitter. “#Bhediya should’ve performed better on the crucial Mon to make up lost ground,” he wrote. The remaining weekdays must be consistent… The lack of major opposition [until #Avatar] can be advantageous… Fri 7.48 billion, Sat 9.57 billion, Sun 11.50 billion, and Mon 3.85 billion. According to the producers, the film grossed $43.67 million worldwide in its first weekend. Kriti shared the figures on Instagram on Sunday, writing, “Howling louder!! Keep the adoration and howls coming!”
Varun had told PTI at the launch of Bhediya song Thumkeshwari, “Since I became an actor, my goal has always been to entertain the audience.” Gyaan nahi batna par public ko enjoy karana hai.”
“Stree was a paisa vasool film, and so is Bhediya, with top-notch VFX,” he added. Amar (the director) has put in a lot of effort. Hopefully, we will not disappoint you and you will be proud of us. We want to bring people to the theatres.”
The News Agency described Bhediya as “high on comedy and novelty.” “If you thought Amar Kaushik’s Stree was one of the most intelligent and rib-tickling horror comedies, Bhediya only takes things a notch higher,” it said.
