Dhaakad, Kangana Ranaut’s action film, is receiving a digital release. The film will be available exclusively on ZEE5 beginning July 1, nearly 45 days after its theatrical premiere.

Dhaakad was released in theatres on May 20. However, it did not fare well at the box office. Kangana Ranaut’s film competed with Kartik Aaryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. While Kartik’s film is still doing well at the box office, Kangana’s film allegedly made only Rs 2.58 crore.

“With such theatrical results, Dhaakad’s satellite and digital earnings will be less than Rs. 5 crores.” Overall, the makers would lose at least Rs. 78 crores on Dhaakad, making it “one of the largest colossal catastrophes of all time,” according to Bollywood Hungama.

Kangana Ranaut addressed Dhaakad’s movie office flop earlier this year, saying that 2022 is not over yet. “2019 I have Manikarnika 160 crore ka supehit flick,” she remarked on her Instagram stories. 2020 was Covid year, and in 2021, I had the biggest film of my career, Thalaivii, which was a major success on OTT. There is a lot of orchestrated negativity, but 2022 is the year of blockbuster Lock Upp, and it isn’t over yet.”

While the film failed to connect with audiences, reviewers praised Kangana’s performance.

Shalini Langer, film reviewer for the Indian Express, rated Dhaakad 3.5 stars. “While much has been said about Dhaakad (a formidable name indeed) being India’s rare woman-centric action film, there are actually two women who do the majority of the heavy lifting here, and pretty effortlessly at that – Kangana Ranaut as the protagonist Agent Agni, and Divya Dutta as Rohini, the brain, financial mind, emotional support, and much, much more of a criminal ring dealing in coal and trafficking of women,” she wrote in her review.

Kangana Ranaut is excited about the release of Tejas. She is also working on her next feature, Emergency.
