Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi are going all out to promote their film Selfiee, which will be released in theatres on February 24. They were recently spotted on a Mumbai metro train.
Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi are preparing for the release of their film, Selfiee. The duo is working hard to promote the film before it hits theatres on February 24. They recently boarded the Mumbai metro and surprised passengers with an impromptu performance of “Main Khiladi,” a song from the film.
Suraj Venjaramoodu and Prithviraj Sukumaran star in Selfiee, a remake of the Malayalam film Driving Licence. Selfiee is also co-produced by Prithviraj Sukumaran, who is expected to appear in a cameo role. Raj Mehta directed Selfiee, which also stars Diana Penty and Nushrratt Bharuccha.
In the film, Akshay plays the role of a superstar named Vijay Kumar, and Emraan’s character (an RTO officer) is a huge fan of Akshay and wants to meet him and take a selfie with him. They get into an argument over Akshay’s driver’s licence. On Wednesday, the cast of Selfiee released the film’s second trailer. Akshay shared the trailer on Instagram, writing, “Aam aadmi ki kahaani toh bahot sun li, ab Vijay Kumar ki bhi sun lo (You’ve heard the common man’s story; now hear Vijay Kumar’s story). Dekhiye (watch) Selfiee trailer 2 Selfiee will be released in theatres on February 24.”
A video on social media shows Akshay and Emraan at Mumbai’s DN Nagar metro station. They were accompanied by a team that was in charge of their security. The two actors dashed to the metro platform in order to catch the train. For this promotional gimmick, they both dressed casually. Emraan wore blue denim and a jacket, while Akshay wore a grey tracksuit.
As the metro began to move, Akshay and Emraan removed their masks, revealing their true identities. The Bollywood stars appeared to have surprised the passengers on the train. Later, the duo also danced on the song “Main Khiladi” which is a recreated version of Akshay’s earlier song, “Main Khiladi Tu Anari”. They also allowed their fans to take selfies with them inside the metro train.
As the video spread on social media, a few Instagram users joked about how this promotional activity could only happen in Mumbai’s metro. “Delhi metro me chadh k dikhao aise” (try getting on the Delhi metro like this) said one commenter. “Baap re kya kya karna pad raha hai ab promotion ke liye (What all they have to do for promotions),” another Instagram user wrote. “They should go in local train phir malum padegaa,” one commenter said. A user added, “Dum hai to virar train mai aake dikhana….shyam 5 bje. (if you can, come to the Virar train at 5 pm).”
Raj Mehta’s Selfiee is a remake of the Malayalam film Driving License, starring Prithviraj Sukumaran and Suraj Venjaramoodu. Nushratt Bharuccha and Diana Penty also appear in the action/comedy drama.
