Gauahar Khan, an actor, has posted a cryptic message about people being offended if a husband makes a joke about his wife, seemingly referring to Ranbir Kapoor’s “phailoed” (spread) remark about his pregnant wife, Alia Bhatt. Gauahar took to Twitter to express her support for husbands who make ‘halka phulka mazaak (light jokes)’ with their wives.
Gauahar wrote on Twitter, “Aaj kal log kuch zyaada hi sensitive hain. If an apni biwi’s halka phulka mazaak karne pe bhi paabandi hai, kya pata kaun kahaan pe offend ho jaaye? Take a chill pill, yaar, and some light; it will solve a lot of the world’s problems.” Someone responded to her tweet by saying, “There are many issues in the world that we should bring to light, but specifically, you tweeted about Ranbir’s low-class humorous comments on weight! But, wait, aren’t you the same person who judges BB contestants on camera? Same!”
“If husband and wife crack jokes at home… Nobody cares….,” said another. Making an absurd comment on a live session in public is referred to as a ‘publicity stunt.’ Small errors add up to a massive blunder.” “No Gauahar, please be honest,” read another tweet. Let us all agree that the joke was not funny and was rather offensive. Just because he’s an ex-colleague with whom you have a good relationship doesn’t mean you’ll continue to defend anything.”
Ranbir and Alia were asked why they weren’t actively promoting Brahmastra during an Instagram live interaction. “We will promote the film and be everywhere,” Alia responded, “but if the question you are asking is why we are not phailoed (spreading) everywhere, right now our focus is…” Ranbir cut her off in the middle of her sentence and said, “Well, I can say somebody has phailoed (referring to her weight gain).”
After several people chastised Ranbir for his remark, he apologised. “First and foremost, let me say that I adore my wife with all of my heart. And what happened there, I think it was a joke that didn’t work out. I sincerely apologise if I have offended anyone. That was not my intent. “I want to apologise to anyone who was offended or triggered,” Ranbir said, according to PTI.
“I spoke to Alia about it, and she really laughed it off, and she didn’t mind it,” he added. But I have a bad sense of humour, and it often falls flat on my face. So, I apologise if I offended anyone.” Ranbir and Alia married in Mumbai in April of this year. Alia announced her pregnancy in an Instagram post in June.
