Hrithik Roshan opened up about his physical transformation over the years as well as his mental health during the shoot of his film War in a new interview with his fitness trainer Kris Gethin. The actor said he thought he ‘was dying’ while filming for the 2019 movie. Hrithik said he was ‘trying to achieve perfection for which he wasn’t ready’ as he prepared for the action film. The actor admitted that he was ‘almost depressed’ and ‘completely lost’.
Tiger Shroff and Vaani Kapoor co-starred in the action-thriller War, which was released in October 2019. It is one of Hrithik’s highest-grossing films, but the actor had a ‘challenging’ time filming it. He said he realised he ‘needed to make a change in his life’ after almost succumbing to depression.
In an interview with Kris Gethin, Hrithik stated, “I feel as light and quick as our previous transformation. When I was doing War, I thought I was going to die. I wasn’t prepared for the film, and I was facing a significant challenge. I was attempting to achieve perfection when I wasn’t prepared. I experienced adrenaline fatigue after seeing the film. I couldn’t train for 3-4 months because I wasn’t feeling well. I was on the verge of going insane. I was completely lost, and it was then that I realised I needed to make a change in my life.”
Kris also recalled training Hrithik in 2013, claiming that the actor ‘didn’t take a day off in seven months’. He added that Hrithik would always meet his goals, eat properly, and go to bed on time. He went on to say that the actor has been dealing with “a lot of injuries” since he was a teenager.
In response, Hrithik stated, “Perhaps one of those factors was age. Having said that, I know it wasn’t because of my age. It all came down to me not living the kind of life I should be living – health-wise and physically. Somewhere along the way, I began to believe that it is acceptable to unwind. I have to remember that even when I’m playing characters like a visually impaired man (in Kaabil) or a schoolteacher (in Super 30), I can’t escape my current lifestyle. This is not a filmic transformation. This is me attempting to find a way of life that I can live for the rest of my life. It is for long-term health.”
Hrithik Roshan was most recently seen in Vikram Vedha. Saif Ali Khan and Radhika Apte also appeared in the film. Hrithik will next be seen in Fighter, co-starring Deepika Padukone and Anil Kapoor. The Siddharth Anand-directed action film is set to be released in January 2024.
