In preparation for Munawar Faruqui’s performance in the city, Hyderabad Police has increased security. As we previously read, Munawar Faruqui was threatened with a beating if he set foot in the city by BJP MLA T Raja Singh. He predicted that the venue will be destroyed by demonstrators. The police have placed T Raja Singh under home arrest out of concern for any possible breach of peace and order. R Satish Kumar, the assistant commissioner of police in Goshamahal, declared: “Since he had been preparing to visit the location and incite violence, we have detained him.” His supporters have greeted the news favourably.
In Hyderabad last year, performances by Munawar Faruqui and Kunal Kamra were planned. But the programme was cancelled. He was accused of disrespecting the Hindu majority, according to members of the ruling party. It was cancelled, according to the organisers, because of the epidemic.
In a video, T Raja Singh had stated, “We will go to the program’s location and beat Faruqui up. We shall set fire to anyone provides him with a venue. KTR [Telangana minister KT Rama Rao], the government, and the police are in charge if something goes wrong. If he enters Telangana, he would unquestionably be beaten and expelled; this is a challenge.”
After receiving a complaint that he made fun of Hindu Gods at a stand-up comedy performance in Indore, Munawar Faruqui was imprisoned for 37 days. Both India and the West denounced the arrest. The Supreme Court subsequently ordered his freedom. He was the winner of Lock Upp’s inaugural season. His gigs have been cancelled in numerous places over the past few months. He added that he had considered giving up his job as a stand-up comic. Munawar Faruqui is reportedly one of the participants on Bigg Boss 16, which will air in October 2022.
