Pankaj Tripathi, an actor, says he dislikes the idea of working on a film or television show in a language he is not “comfortable” with. Tripathi, the versatile actor who has appeared in films such as Stree, Gurgaon, Ludo, and the web series Mirzapur, has stated that he does not want his voice to be dubbed by another actor.

“I dislike the idea of speaking in a language with which I am unfamiliar in any film or web series.” I don’t want my dialogues to be spoken by someone else. My voice complements my acting and expressions. Otherwise, my role would be incomplete,” the 45-year-old said to PTI. When asked if he would ever appear in a Bengali film, Tripathi stated that he understands the language but that it is insufficient.

He would, however, do a Bengali film if cast as a Hindi-speaking character, according to Pankaj Tripathi.

“I am looking forward to being approached with a storyline that appeals to me by any of Bengal’s current crop of talented directors,” he said.

The actor will next be seen in Srijit Mukherji’s Sherdil: The Pilibhit Saga, which opens in theatres across the country on Friday. The film is based on true events from the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve, where people would abandon their elderly relatives for tigers to prey on and then sue the administration for compensation. When asked if working in Sherdil has made him more conscious of environmental issues, Tripathi stated that he has always had a close relationship with mother nature.

“I was appointed as a green ambassador by an NGO and am involved in their green drive for wild animals in the Pench Tiger Reserve project.” In the future, I will be involved in similar projects to protect the environment and wildlife.”

According to the actor, everyone should “work to make this world, our neighbourhood, and other places liveable.”

Pankaj Tripathi, who is from Belsand village in Bihar’s Gopalganj district, said the protagonist Gangaram in Sherdil was not a difficult character to play on screen. “I’m from a small village, and I know these people.” Srijit first told me about Sherdil in 2019, when I visited Kolkata for Durga Puja. I became obsessed with the concept. He then began developing the storyline for the next two years, and I joined the project,” he added.

Sherdil: The Pilibhit Saga, produced by Bhushan Kumar and Reliance Entertainment, also stars Neeraj Kabi and Sayani Gupta.
