In a new Shark Tank promo, Namita Thapar slams a pitch about dieting for weight loss: 'Log ye gimmicky cheezein kar rahe hain,' says one.

Shark Tank India judge Namita Thapar criticised an idea shared on the show in the most recent Sony Entertainment Television promo. While listening to the pitch for a diet and nutrition company, the executive director of Emcure Pharmaceuticals stated that she is unable to agree on a fundamental level with the business idea. This is not the first time Namita has spoken out strongly about weight loss and dieting issues. Namita previously shared in an episode that she, too, experienced body shaming and was even teased as’moti (fat)’ in her early days.

“Ye jo apne word use kiya hain na’restart,’ isi mein problem hein,” Namita said to an entrepreneur pitching her business idea in the Shark Tank India season 2 promo released on Thursday. Ye aap bata rahi he, ki no exercise… humare saath aate he, restart karte he… Let us spread the message that weight loss is a lifestyle change, and that diabetes and high blood pressure are not because of gimmicks, but because of a lack of health care. Toh mujhe ye sab sunke thoda sa, I apologise, but gussa aa jata hain. I believe we must stop misguiding the country (the word’restart’ you just used is my main issue. Whatever you’re saying here, I can’t agree on a fundamental level, that there is no exercise, that we restart, etc… Weight loss occurs as a result of a change in lifestyle, and if our country is becoming the diabetes and blood pressure capitals, it is because we are doing these gimmicky things and playing with our health. So, I’m sorry to say, after hearing this, I’m a little angry).”

While Namita was speaking, the other two sharks, Peyush Bansal and Anupam Mittal, looked at her and appeared to agree with her. Some users praised Namita’s thoughts on the show. One person said, “Hats off.” Namita revealed last year on author Chetan Bhagat’s YouTube talk show that she used to feel’very ugly’ as a child due to her weight and acne.
