For filmmaker Rohit Shetty, hosting the stunt reality TV show “Khatron Ke Khiladi” is the equivalent of directing a film that serves up a balanced meal of action, drama, and comedy. Shetty, who has hosted seven seasons of the reality series since 2014, credited the show’s crew with pushing the envelope and inventing new stunts with each instalment.

“We make certain that the stunts are not repeated. The show is seen all over the world, but the amount of love it has received in India is unfathomable. The reason for this is the team behind it. Every Saturday and Sunday, it’s like watching an ensemble film with action, drama, and comedy “In an interview with PTI, the 49-year-old director stated.

Shetty is currently filming the show’s 12th season in Cape Town, South Africa, with a new cast of contestants facing their greatest fears in order to win the coveted title. According to the filmmaker, “Khatron Ke Khiladi” is primarily popular among young people who are inspired by the bravery of the contestants.

“I’ve realised over the years that the reason the show is so popular is because of the kids. The show is extremely popular among children and teenagers. We keep them in mind when creating stunts to give them a rush. It’s a clean show with no unnecessary banter “He continued.

Shetty joined the Indian version of the popular American show “Fear Factor” in 2014, succeeding previous hosts Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar and Priyanka Chopra.

Kumar was a part of the first two seasons, while Chopra hosted the third season before Kumar returned for the fourth. Shetty, who took over as host in the fifth season, is the show’s longest-serving host.

The filmmaker stated that he had long been a fan of “Khatron Ke Khiladi” and had always hoped to be associated with the show. “One of my favourite shows is ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi.’ Previously, I simply manifested it when Akshay Kumar and Priyanka Chopra hosted it. It is a show that I am fond of because I enjoy action and stunts. It is not an easy show to watch. It’s a difficult show. Every time, it’s a new challenge for me,” Shetty added. The director admitted that he was initially concerned about being accepted as a host. “When I did the first season, I knew we shot it well, but when it aired, we were waiting for the TRP because I didn’t know if people would accept me not as a host or not.”

“I was filming ‘Singham Returns,’ and one of my crew members informed me that the TRP was 3.6, which was the highest. I was taken aback. There was no turning back from then on.”

Shetty, the man behind the “Singham” and “Golmaal” franchises, as well as “Sooryavanshi,” hoped that the upcoming show would be a great learning experience for him.

“The boys and girls’ willpower, the courage and perspective they bring… they want to prove themselves and work hard. It’s not like shooting a show in an AC studio. You come here for 45 to 50 days and shoot from early morning until late at night every day.

“It is challenging for them. They are here to prove themselves, not only here but also in their careers. That is truly inspiring. The new generation is tough because they are so clear in their minds and what they want. Working with new people who have the same energy, courage, and desire to prove something is a learning experience for me,” he says.

When asked if he has made a long-term commitment to “Khatron Ke Khiladi,” Shetty stated that he looks forward to each season.

“I’m not sure what Colors will do. They may change (the host) if they believe it is not working, or they may bring in a celebrity. It is entirely up to them. It’s a show I’m looking forward to seeing. It’s something I enjoy. “You can’t host the show if you don’t love it,” he added.

Rubina Dilaik, Pratik Sehajpal, Sriti Jha, Nishant Bhat, Faisal Sheikh, Shivangi Joshi, Jannat Zubair, Tushar Kalia, Mohit Malik, Erika Packard, Chetna Pande, Kanika Mann, Aneri Vajani, and Rajiv Adatia are among the celebrities who will appear in the upcoming season.

The 12th season of “Khatron Ke Khiladi” will premiere on Colors on July 2.
