Julius Onah is set to direct Marvel Studios’ fourth Captain America film, which will star Anthony Mackie.
Onah is best known for directing The Cloverfield Paradox, a Netflix original film released in 2018, and Luce, a 2019 thriller starring Naomi Watts, Octavia Spencer, Kelvin Harrison Jr, and Tim Roth.
Mackie recently signed a deal to star in Captain America 4, in which his Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) character Sam Wilson will wield Captain America’s shield for the first time on the big screen.
At the end of his 2021 Disney+ series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Mackie’s Wilson aka The Falcon assumed the title of Captain America.
According to Variety, Malcolm Spellman is co-writing the script with Dalan Musson, with whom he previously collaborated on Falcon and The Winter Soldier.
Kevin Feige, the CEO of Marvel Studios, will produce the superhero film, which has yet to be given an official title or a release date.
Chris Evans previously portrayed Captain America as Steve Rogers in three films: Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), and Captain America: Civil War (2016), as well as four Avengers films.
However, at the conclusion of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, Rogers retired and handed over his shield to Mackie’s Sam Wilson, whose story was mapped out in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier alongside Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/ Winter Soldier.
