Rhea Kapoor, a film producer and stylist, came out in support of her sister Sonam Kapoor after many criticised her for borrowing clothes from brands. Sonam admitted to Karan Johar’s show Koffee With Karan 7 that 90 percent of the clothes she wears in photos are borrowed from brands. While many people had mixed feelings about it, Rhea explained their motivation.

Sonam Kapoor discussed her love of taking photos before events on Koffee With Karan, saying, “The reason Rhea and I decided to take photos was because we realised when we went to the red carpet, there was so much business behind us.” And we were borrowing; in fact, the majority of my clothes are borrowed. 90% of my clothes are borrowed.”

In response, a small business owner shared a video discussing the process of celebrity branding. Rhea responded on Instagram Stories, writing, “We really do try our best because we love fashion and design!” Nobody is perfect, and things may not always go as planned for everyone, but the intention is there!”

Sonam also revealed during the show, “They (brands) lend you clothes, we’re not buying.” We’re not crazy to spend this much money on clothes.” While her response almost stunned Karan, she also added, “We were like, we need to give credit where credit is due.” The simple reason is that if someone lends me something, I want to ensure that the person receives nice photos, the designer receives nice photos, and we credit them. But I’m not sure if they’re borrowing it or buying it and storing it.”

Sonam Kapoor, who was expecting her first child with husband Anand Ahuja, recently gave birth to a baby boy. She was released from the Mumbai hospital where she had been admitted on Friday. Rhea had previously shared the first image of Sonam’s baby on social media, straight from the hospital.
