Lady Gaga will play Harley Quinn alongside Joaquin Phoenix in the upcoming Joker sequel, Joker: Folie a Deux.

Margot Robbie has spoken out about Lady Gaga’s portrayal of Harley Quinn in Joker 2. The Birds of Prey actor is apparently thrilled that Lady Gaga will play Harley Quinn in the upcoming Joker sequel, officially titled Joker: Folie a Deux.
According to Variety, Joaquin Phoenix, who won an Oscar for playing the Joker, will co-star with Lady Gaga in the first Joker film. Despite reports that Gaga is playing Harley Quinn, Warner Bros. and Gaga have not officially confirmed what character she is portraying. Robbie played Harley in the first live-action rendition of Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey, and The Suicide Squad.
“It makes me so pleased because I stated from the beginning that all I want is for Harley Quinn to be one of those roles that gets handed from great actor to great actor, like Macbeth or Batman,” Robbie said in a video interview with MTV News. “Someone gets to play Batman, and someone gets to play Macbeth.”

Robbie went on, “I feel like there aren’t many female characters – Queen Elizabeth I, but beyond that, which I got to have a stab at, which I was honoured to do. ‘Wow! Cate Blanchett did Queen Elizabeth I,’ I thought. Now it’s my turn.’ It’s an honour to have laid such a solid foundation that Harley can now be one of those characters that other actors get to play. And I believe she’ll achieve something spectacular with it.
According to Variety, returning star Zazie Beetz will be joined by newcomers Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, and Jacob Lofland in Joker: Folie a Deux. They will all appear alongside Gaga and Phoenix.
Joker: Folie a Deux, a Warner Bros. production, will premiere on October 4, 2024.
