Suchitra Krishnamoorthi married Shekhar Kapur in 1997 and separated in 2006. Kaveri Kapur, the actor and filmmaker’s daughter, is a singer who will shortly make her acting debut in Hindi films. Kaveri stays at home with her mother. In a new interview, Suchitra stated that as a single mom, she was not severe with her daughter and was the ‘antithesis’ of her own parents. Suchitra further admitted that Kaveri compelled her to use a dating app.

As a single mom, Suchitra stated she was “extremely careful” of not doing “anything frivolous.” She said that she was a “very conservative” person in several parts of her life, but that she had to “overcome so much self-conditioning” in order to keep a promise to her daughter. Her daughter Kaveri, who is set to star in her debut Hindi film alongside late actor Amrish Puri’s grandson Vardhan Puri, created Suchitra’s profile on a dating app. Suchitra claimed she was compelled to go on dates, which she disliked. She also said that she ended up friend-zoning them after a few dates. She hopes to write about her experiences in a book or a narrative someday.

“Some time ago, my daughter Kaveri put me on a dating site. That’s what I promised her, so I said alright. I became bored and informed her, bachha (baby), that this was not my scene. She registered my identity and created my profile, then insisted on my going on dates… “I told her that I did it for your sake, but now I can’t do it and I’m OK on my own,” Suchitra said in an interview with Pinkvilla. She stated that after originally posting her own photo, she modified it after receiving some ‘strange’ remarks. She described the situation as “so much pressure.”

Sushitra also stated that following her divorce from ex-husband Shekhar, she had one year-long romance. Nobody knows about it, she adds.

Sushitra was also quizzed on her relationship with superstar Shah Rukh Khan. They collaborated in the 1994 film Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa. “No, not really,” she answered when asked if they were still in contact. Our children used to attend the same school. For a time in London, we were neighbours. But not quite.”

When asked about Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, she stated that it was her “primary recollection” in public. She also mentioned that the late actor Irrfan Khan, who died in 2020, used to hang around on the set of the film, since his wife Sutapa Sikdar worked as the costume designer. On set, she described him as a “brooding, extremely sorrowful looking person.”
