The director of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has responded to accusations that Disha Vakani developed throat cancer as a result of Dayaben’s unusual voice on the show.
Malav Rajda, the director of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, has responded to accusations that actor Disha Vakani, who played Dayaben on the show, developed throat cancer as a result of the unusual voice she had to give to her character. Disha, who left the show in 2017, has yet to respond to the rumours. Her brother Mayur Vakani, who also played her on-screen sibling Sundar, denied them as unfounded.
Malav Rajda came to Instagram on Thursday to respond to reports that Disha Vakani had throat cancer, and he criticised misleading reporting. He also reacted to the rumour in the same way Dayaben’s spouse Jethalal did (Dilip Joshi).
Malav shared a screenshot of one such report, writing, “As Jethalal says, rubbish… News reporting is such a serious profession… It always shocks me how irresponsibly it is done at times. So much significant news. At the very least, double-check. It has the potential to effect a large number of individuals, so why print any news unless you are certain? So this is entirely incorrect for all of her supporters.” According to the information he published, Disha “suffered throat troubles due to Dayaben’s unique voice.”
Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah viewers also used the show’s reference to respond to the rumours in the comments section. “Patrakar Popatlal would be disappointed in his fellow news reporters,” one person remarked. “These individuals should be put on Anjali bhabhi’s diet for a month,” said another. Others praised him for informing them of the update.
Mayur Vakani previously stated that the rumours are false and that Disha is totally well. According to him, “She is in good health, and none of this is true. Every day, we hear false rumours about her, but fans should not accept them.”
For nearly a decade, Disha played Dayaben on Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. She has not been on the show since taking a maternity leave in 2017. She and her spouse, Mayur Padia, had a girl in 2017 and a son in May of this year.
