Chris Hemsworth has been playing Thor since Kenneth Branagh’s 2011 standalone film, simply titled Thor. Many consider Thor: Dark World to be his low point, but the character received a much-needed boost with Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok, the third film, which was a madcap delight.
Waititi will direct Hemsworth again in Thor: Love and Thunder. Will this be the last time we see a Thor film starring him? We don’t know, and neither does he. During an auto-complete interview with Wired, he was asked about his future as Thor and what his last Thor film will be.
“The most recent one I shot was Thor: Love and Thunder.” And it could be my last, I’m not sure.”he said
If the hints in the trailers are correct, Love and Thunder will be Hemsworth’s final film as Thor. Perhaps Portman, who takes on the role of Mighty Thor, will be the MCU’s thunder deity after that?
Waititi’s Korg is seen in the latest trailer telling a story about Thor to a group of children of his race. He’s using the past tense. Does this mean Thor is no longer alive? We’ll find out soon enough.
Meanwhile, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Pom Klementieff, and Karen Gillan are all part of the Guardians of the Galaxy cast. Jeff Goldblum, who played Grandmaster in Thor: Ragnarok, is also expected to return. Lady Sif, played by Jaimie Alexander in the first two Thor films, will return. Russell Crowe will play Zeus, a Marvel character based on the mythical Greek king of gods.
Christian Bale plays the main antagonist Gorr the God Butcher, a powerful being who vowed to kill all gods after experiencing a series of tragedies in his life.
Thor: Love and Thunder will be released in India on July 7th.
